Career Coaching

The aim of the Career Coaching programme is to raise the professional and personal aspirations of our users. Coaching at The ClementJames Centre is a free service open to local adults in need. It is non-directive, non-judgemental, goal-focused, action-based, supportive and positive. The coaching sessions help our users have a clearer picture of their future, unlock their motivation and break down tasks into manageable steps so that they can move forward with their careers.

The coach and coachee meet once a week over a period of eight weeks. During each session (45 minutes), the coachee will come up with a list of action points to complete before the next session so, by the end of the eight weeks, the coachee will have made clear steps forward with their career and personal life.

We have been running the Career Coaching Programme since August 2011 and have so far completed the coaching of 4 users, with a further 3 currently being coached.

The feedback we have had from the coachees is overwhelmingly positive. For the majority, it is the first time they have had a chance to talk to someone at length about the reasons behind their unemployment and to share their aspirations for the future.

All four of the users who have completed the programme have a clearer picture of how to achieve their goals and have greater aspirations for their personal and professional lives:

‘I cannot thank you enough for your support. Whatever the outcome, I strongly believe that I after all have not let myself down’. (after she got her first job interview)

‘You are a brilliant life coach and eventually I did manage to come up with a solution for my future goal and career. I really want to become a doctor and I will try everything, no matter what it takes to grasp every chance to get into medicine.’’

‘I wouldn’t be where I am now without your support.’

‘I was stuck before I came to the Centre and bored out of my mind. I needed this service in 2006 but I didn’t know it was here which is very sad for me. It’s helping me tremendously because the things I needed to do I didn’t know how to get them done. I was thinking them in my head but not being able to do them. So the practical support and expertise of the workers has enabled me to plan and to put action to and to execute my goals and to change my life for the better. I am motivated now.’
